Royal Ontario Museum celebrates biodiversity
Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) opens the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity on Saturday, a cross-section of many of the ROM’s rich natural collections, designed to, according to a release, “convey an important message about the stunning variety of life on Earth, the interconnectedness of nature’s amazing web, and the ability that each of us has to care for the environment.”
What I know is when the ROM puts together an exhibit, it will be extremely thorough, accessible and thought provoking. The biodiversity exhibit is a must-see for me. I hope it will connect the thousands of visitors that come through the museum’s doors with the fragility of the planet and their own capacity to impact our future.
The gallery includes three areas, “Life is Diverse,” illustrating the astonishing number and variety of species on Earth; “Life is Interconnected,” demonstrating that any impact on one habitat affects the whole ecosystem; and “Life is at Risk,” showing how the “web of life” is threatening to unravel due to human activities, but also how we have the ability to be part of the solution.
